FAQs

  • What do I need to know about traveling to Portugal?
U.S. citizens will need to provide passports valid for at least three months after the end of your stay. Starting in 2025 travelers to Europe will also need to apply for an ETIA: https://etias.com/etiasrequirements/etias-for-american-citizens. The ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) is an electronic travel authorization for citizens of visa-exempt countries who want to visit Europe. Think of it as a security check done before you arrive, which aims to strengthen border control across the region. You apply online, pay a small fee, and get approved within minutes or, at most, a few days. Once approved, your ETIAS will be valid for three years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
  • How did you decide on Portugal?
With family and friends in many places, we wanted to select a destination that would feel more like a vacation and allow us to spend meaningful time with our favorite people.
  • Can I bring a date?
We have a strict guest list to stay within our venue's capacity, we can only accommodate those listed on your invitation. Thank you for understanding!
  • What should I pack?
If you plan to explore Sintra and Lisbon on foot, bring comfortable shoes as it is very hilly. The cocktail hour and dinner will be on a lawn, please plan footwear accordingly.
  • Can I order a special diet for dinner?
It is possible to order a special meal, namely vegetarian, vegan, among others. Just mention it in the RSVP questionnaire, or contact our wedding planner through the following email: olivia@aboutevents.com.pt .
  • Are kids invited?
Because of the destination we are planning for an adults only celebration, though children within the immediate family and members of the wedding party will be attending. We appreciate your understanding!
  • What are your travel plans?
We are planning to arrive a few days prior to the wedding weekend events. We will likely be staying in Lisbon to explore the city and relax. Let us know if you plan to do the same and we can loosely coordinate something!
  • Is there a room block or discount code for Penha Longa Resort?
We do not have a room block or discount code for Penha Longa. If you book before the Christmas holidays, there should be promos and deals available through their website. It is also a Marriott property, if you are a member or have points.
  • Do you have a wedding registry?
Thanks for supporting and celebrating us! Your time and travel to Portugal is more than enough - your presence and the memories we make together are the best gifts. However, if you wish to make an additional gift, we have a honeymoon fund and small registry.
  • Where are the welcome party and farewell events?
Please continue to check our site for details as we confirm additional wedding weekend activities. We’ll also send out reminders along the way to ensure you don’t miss any of the fun.
  • What should we do while visiting Portugal and where else should we explore?
We’ve thrown together a list of activities and sights to see on the “Portugal Visitor Guide” page. Shoutout to all who have been to Portugal previously and helped contribute!
